Description

The umbrella tree plant, commonly known as the umbrella plant, refers to species in the genus Schefflera, with Schefflera actinophylla and Schefflera arboricola being the most well-known. These are popular ornamental plants, often grown indoors or in tropical and subtropical gardens.

Description:

• Leaves: The plant gets its name from its distinctive foliage. Its glossy green leaves are arranged in a circular pattern at the end of stems, resembling the spokes of an umbrella.

• Height: In the wild, Schefflera actinophylla can grow up to 50 feet tall, but indoors it usually remains much smaller—around 6 to 10 feet.

• Flowers: Outdoors in suitable climates, the larger species may produce long, red, tentacle-like flower clusters, though they rarely bloom indoors.

• Growth Habit: It has a bushy, upright growth habit and is relatively low-maintenance.

Light & Care:

• Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate some shade.

• Water when the top inch of soil feels dry; overwatering can lead to root rot.

• It enjoys humid conditions and may benefit from occasional misting indoors.
