Magnolia

The Magnolia is a genus of flowering trees and shrubs renowned for its large, showy, and often fragrant blooms, which can range in color from white and pink to purple and yellow. With over 200 species, magnolias are native to East Asia and the Americas, and they are among the oldest flowering plants on Earth, dating back millions of years.

Magnolia trees vary in size, from small shrubs to large trees reaching up to 80 feet (24 meters) tall. Their thick, leathery leaves are usually dark green and glossy, adding year-round visual interest. The flowers, which can appear in early spring or summer depending on the species, often bloom before the leaves emerge, creating a striking visual display.

Magnolias thrive in well-drained, slightly acidic soil and prefer full sun to partial shade. While some varieties are evergreen, others are deciduous and lose their leaves in the fall.

Popular species include the Southern Magnolia (Magnolia grandiflora), known for its massive white flowers and evergreen leaves, and the Saucer Magnolia (Magnolia × soulangeana), famous for its tulip-shaped pink and white blooms.
