Description

The Jacaranda tree (Jacaranda mimosifolia) is a deciduous or semi-evergreen tree admired for its spectacular display of vibrant purple-blue, trumpet-shaped flowers that bloom in late spring to early summer. Native to South America, particularly Brazil, Argentina, and Bolivia, it has been widely cultivated in subtropical and tropical regions around the world.

Jacarandas typically grow up to 25 to 40 feet (7 to 12 meters) tall and spread widely, creating a broad, graceful canopy. The tree’s delicate, fern-like foliage adds an airy elegance and provides dappled shade. In full bloom, the flowers often cover the ground beneath in a vivid purple carpet, creating a striking visual effect.

This tree thrives in well-drained soil and prefers full sunlight, though it can tolerate occasional drought once established. While prized for its beauty, jacarandas can be messy when flowers drop, and they require space to grow without interfering with nearby structures.

Jacarandas are often planted along streets, in parks, and in large gardens, where their seasonal color provides a dramatic and picturesque landscape feature.
