Coleus

Description

The coleus plant (Plectranthus scutellarioides, formerly Solenostemon scutellarioides) is a popular ornamental plant known for its vibrantly colored foliage. It belongs to the mint family (Lamiaceae) and is native to tropical regions of Southeast Asia and Australia.

Foliage: The main attraction of coleus plants is their broad, often heart-shaped leaves that come in a wide variety of colors, including shades of green, burgundy, purple, red, yellow, and pink. Many varieties have intricate patterns and variegation.

Growth Habit: Coleus can be upright, bushy, or trailing, depending on the variety. Most grow between 1 to 3 feet tall, although some dwarf and miniature varieties are much smaller.

Flowers: Coleus produces small, tubular blue or purple flowers on spike-like inflorescences, but they are typically considered insignificant and are often removed to encourage more leaf growth.
